Fire Risk Assessor Training

We have partnered with Inspire College of Technologies to share details about their fire risk assessor training qualifications.

 

These fire risk assessor training courses, delivered by the ICT Quals team, are regulated by ProQual and recognised under the RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework).

 

The new courses released by ProQual have been cross-mapped to align with BS 8674, demonstrating they meet the skills and knowledge requirements set out in BS 8674 - Framework for Competence of Individual Fire Risk Assessors (including the Code of Conduct).

ProQual Level 4 Award in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment.

ProQual Level 4 Award in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment

The ProQual Level 4 Award in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment provides a nationally recognised qualification for those working in the fire risk assessment industry, particularly in high-risk buildings.

 

This qualification is based on the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in BS 8674: Built Environment — Framework for Competence of Individual Fire Risk Assessors — Code of Practice.

Learners should have prior experience in fire safety, health and safety, or risk management roles. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are required. Prior completion of a Level 3 or equivalent fire safety course is recommended but not mandatory.

Assessment typically includes practical fire risk assessment tasks, written assignments, and reports that demonstrate the learner’s ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-world scenarios.

The aims of this qualification are:

- To enable fire risk assessors working in premises identified as high risk to demonstrate their competency.

- To provide a mechanism for individuals working as independent fire risk assessors in premises identified as high risk to demonstrate that they meet the skills and knowledge requirements set out in BS 8674.

 

- To enable those working in the fire risk assessment industry to develop and demonstrate their skills.

The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual AB. This qualification has been approved for delivery in England. The regulatory body is Ofqual, and the qualification has been accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and published on Ofqual’s Register of Regulated Qualifications.

ProQual Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment Awareness.

ProQual Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment Awareness

The ProQual Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment Awareness provides a nationally recognised, industry-specific qualification for candidates who have responsibility for fire safety–related tasks in their work area.

 

There are no specific qualifications required for entry onto this qualification, but it is a natural progression from achievement of a Level 2/3 course and/or qualification in Fire Door Installation, Fire Door Inspection and Fire Compartmentation.

The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body (www.proqualab.com), and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The qualification has been accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is published on Ofqual’s Register of Regulated Qualifications.

ProQual Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety and Risk Management.

ProQual Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety and Risk Management

The ProQual Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety and Risk Management is aimed at candidates who are responsible for carrying out fire risk assessments on various types of property. They may be staff members, supervisors, or managers looking to improve their knowledge and skills.

The ProQual Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety and Risk Management is designed for individuals working in or aspiring to work in fire safety roles. Ideal candidates include fire safety officers, risk assessors, building inspectors, safety engineers, and facilities managers. It is also suitable for health and safety professionals seeking to expand their competencies into fire safety and risk management.

 

The Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) is the single framework for regulated qualifications. The regulatory body for this qualification is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). This qualification is accredited onto the RQF.

Entry requirements

 

- Minimum age: 18 years.  

- Preferred: prior experience in health & safety, engineering, or facilities management.  

- Basic understanding of fire safety principles.  

- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.  

- Access to a suitable workplace or case study for practical assessments.  

- Basic computer skills for documentation and report preparation. 

- Commitment and motivation to improve fire safety standards and pursue leadership in fire safety and risk management.  

- Willingness to apply theoretical knowledge to real‑world fire safety scenarios and promote safe, compliant environments.

Candidates must demonstrate the level of knowledge and competence described in the unit. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.
